What WatchBrief is

WatchBrief is a personalised entertainment recommendation service at watchbrief.co. It helps you decide what movie, documentary, or TV show to watch by learning your taste over time.

What data we collect

We collect only what is necessary to run the service:

  • Your email address, used to create your account and send magic link sign-in emails.
  • Your genre preferences and keyword preferences for each section (Movies, Documentaries, TV Shows).
  • Your feedback on recommendations (Loved it, Liked it, Did not like it, Have not seen it).
  • Which titles you have selected to watch.

We do not collect your name, payment information, location, or any device identifiers.

How we use your data

Your data is used solely to operate WatchBrief: to generate personalised recommendations and to improve those recommendations over time based on your feedback. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties.

Data storage and security

Your data is stored in Supabase, a cloud database service. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Row-level security is enabled on all tables, meaning your data can only be accessed by your own authenticated session. We do not store passwords; authentication is handled by Supabase Auth via magic links only.

Third-party services

WatchBrief uses The Movie Database (TMDB) API to retrieve movie, documentary, and TV show information including titles, descriptions, posters, and trailers. Film data is provided by TMDB but WatchBrief is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. See TMDB's Privacy Policy.

Authentication and database services are provided by Supabase. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your data at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, email hello@watchbrief.co with the subject line “Delete my account” and we will process the request within 7 days.

If you are based in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights under GDPR and UK GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Cookies

WatchBrief sets a single session cookie to keep you signed in. This is a strictly necessary cookie. No advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party tracking cookies are used.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of WatchBrief after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
